After nearly forty years in golf administration including the last twenty-five as Executive Director of the New Jersey State Golf Association, Steve Foehl has a wealth of knowledge and experience to provide to clients.
Steve began his career in golf administration with a five season stint at the United States Golf Association as Manager of Regional Affairs, where he was the lead official for several championships. When he left the USGA staff, Steve remained active as a volunteer on the USGA Junior Amateur Committee. After several years in a private business venture, he returned to golf administration as the executive director in New Jersey. During his twenty-five year tenure the association realized tremendous growth. The membership grew from 24,000 to over 80,000 and the tournament schedule expanded from ten to twenty four. Moreover, Steve was directly responsible for the creation of the association’s award winning magazine, NJSGA GOLF, as well as the development of a sophisticated website for improved member engagement. Steve has received numerous honors along the way. The Star-Ledger, New Jersey's largest newspaper included him in its “12 Driving Forces in NJ Golf” and New Jersey Golf Magazine named him of the “10 Most Influential People in Golf”. In 2004 Steve was the recipient of the New Jersey Golf Course Owners Association Traditions Award and in 2007 he received the Ike Grainger Award from the USGA. In 2016 Steve was honored by the International Association of Golf Administrators with their Distinguished Service Award. But Steve is much more than accolades and awards. He has volunteered his time and energy in countless ways. For many years he served on the advisory board of the New Jersey Turfgrass Foundation. In 1999 he served as president of the International Association of Golf Administrators and on the board of directors of the National Golf Foundation. A qualified rules expert Steve has served as a volunteer official at over fifty USGA championships including twenty-five United States Open Championships. He continues to serve as a member of the USGA Senior Amateur Championship Committee. An accomplished player Steve qualified for the 1976 US Amateur. He is a member of the Society of Seniors, the Father and Son Golf Association, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, the Rumson (NJ) Country Club and Galloway National Golf Club. Steve lives on the New Jersey Shore with his wife of 43 years, Betsy. They enjoy watching their two young grandchildren grow up and flourish. |
